Summer sessions |||amp; the Kelp Cutter

Saturday July 7th a little summer point:

The waves weren't that good- but JP ripped! The sets had some size but it was gnar... No matter, JP picked off the gems...Nobody else in the water was CHARGING like JP!
As usual, there are shots of JP powering through bottom turns cranking hard, drawing the turn out until the precise moment that the section opens up, then projecting into the barrel or through the lip into a slashing cutback. The images are soft due to the harsh lighting but they still convey the commitment and CHARGE that JP brings to every session.

A Couple More from that Day

That's what Aaron Goulding wrote to J.P. when he sent along these photos. I wish "that day" would come again, and soon. It's still FLAT here in San Diego with otherwise good surfing conditions (light wind, sun, etc.) I'm always amazed, and a bit dumb founded, as how the Pacific Ocean has this fetch of Thousands of miles and does not generate a thigh-high wave to ride. Hopefully this post will change that!

The Waiting Period

J.P. Marengo lives in La Jolla California. He likes to hunt. Big waves. He's getting ready to kill something - he likes game from the North/West angle. Right now it's cold. Flat. Here's his new gun (The Longun) custom built by Dennis. It's locked and loaded. The 8'-6" pintail is loaded with glass-on fins. No BS'ing around when it's time. He keeps waiting. Patiently.

August 2010

This summer will certainly not go down as one of San Diego's finest. Cold water, minimal swell and a missing sun. However, there were a few ok to decent souths that crept in. Many spots here in SD missed the action, but if you were at the right spot - at the right time - there were a few good ones to be had. Here's one of our team riders reaping the benefits of local knowledge. Mr. JP Marengo leashless at a pile of rocks off the crown jewel.

Botox Lips

Some lips are wafer thin. Some lips are soft and mushy. Some lips are small and chapped. But this lip shown in this photo is on roids or just got a huge botox injection in mid July prior to breaking on this local shelf. All I know is that the lips in Leucadia and Del Mar do not come close to looking like these. J.P. - in the right place at the right time. again............... You are the Man!
